  13. MyUninstaller is an alternative utility to the standard Add/Remove applet
  14. of Windows operating system. It displays the list of all installed
  15. application, and allows you to uninstall an application, delete an
  16. uninstall entry, and save the list of all installed applications into a
  17. text file or HTML file.
  18. MyUninstaller also provides additional information for most installed
  19. applications that the standard Add/Remove applet doesn't display: product
  20. name, company, version, uninstall string, installation folder and more.

  24. Important Notice

  27. When you uninstall a software, MyUninstaller utility is not directly
  28. responsible to the uninstall process. MyUninstaller simply run the
  29. uninstall module provided by the software that you want to uninstall. So,
  30. if from some reason the uninstall process fails, you should contact the
  31. author of the software that you want to uninstall, not to the author of
  32. MyUninstaller.

  124. Using MyUninstaller
  125. ===================

  127. The MyUninstaller utility is a standalone executable. It doesn't require
  128. any installation process or additional DLL's. Just copy the executable
  129. file to any folder you want, and run it.
  130. After your run it, MyUninstaller loads the list of the installed
  131. applications from the Registry, and gathers information about each
  132. installation item. The loading and analyzing process might take between 5
  133. and 15 seconds and even more, depending on your hardware, operating
  134. system, and the quantity of the installed application on your computer.
  135. After the analyzing process is finished, MyUninstaller displays the
  136. details of all installed applications on your computer. Be aware that
  137. some columns, like version, product name, company and others, are
  138. displayed for most installed applications, but not for all of them. In
  139. rare cases, It's also possible that wrong information about an installed
  140. application will be displayed.
  141. The following table provides basic information about each available
  142. column:

  147. Entry Name
  148. The entry name of the installed application as it appears in the Registry.
  149.  
  150. Registry Key
  151. The key name of the installed application in the Registry.
  152.  
  153. Product Name
  154. The name of the product. This information is extracted from the
  155. executable of the installed application.

  157. Version
  158. The version of the product. This information is extracted from the
  159. executable or from the Registry entry of the installed application.
  160.  
  161. Company
  162. The company or the author that created the application. This information
  163. is extracted from the executable or from the Registry entry of the
  164. installed application.

  166. Description
  167. The description of the product. This information is extracted from the
  168. executable of the installed application.

  170. Obsolete
  171. If the value in this column is "Yes", the uninstall entry is probably
  172. obsolete, and the application is no longer installed on your computer.

  174. Uninstall
  175. Tells you whether the application provides an uninstall support. If the
  176. value in this column is "No", you cannot uninstall the application.
  177. entries with no uninstall support are displayed only if you check the
  178. "Show Items With No Uninstall" option in the View menu.

  180. Installation Folder
  181. The folder that contains the installed application.

  183. Web Site
  184. The Web site of the installed application. Be aware that most
  185. applications do not provide this information.

  187. Installation Date
  188. This column is only available in Windows NT, Windows 2000 and Windows XP.
  189. It shows the date that the application has been installed. Be aware that
  190. this value is taken from Registry key of the installed application. If
  191. you modify something in the Registry key of the installed application,
  192. this column may contain wrong installation date.

  194. Uninstall String
  195. The uninstall string as it appears in the Registry.

  197. Quiet Uninstall
  198. Specifies whether this item supports Quiet Uninstall option. Be aware
  199. that most installed software do not support this option.

  201. Installer
  202. Specifies the installer software that is used to install/uninstall the
  203. program. MyUninstaller can identify the following installers: Windows
  204. Installer, Inno Setup, Wise Installer, InstallShield, MindVision VISE
  205. Installer, Ghost Installer, Nullsoft Install System, Gentee Installer,
  206. and ZipInstaller.

  208. Root Key
  209. Specifies the root key of the uninstall entry. most programs add the
  210. uninstall entries under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, but there are some programs
  211. that also allows you to install for the current user - under
  212. HKEY_CURRENT_USER.

  214. You can change the location of a column by dragging the column header to
  215. another location. You can also increase or decrease the width of each
  216. column. these settings (the location and the width of all columns) are
  217. automatically saved for you and loaded in the next time that you run the
  218. MyUninstaller utility.

  222. Uninstalling an application

  225. In order to uninstall an application, select the desired entry, and from
  226. the File menu (or from the pop-up menu) select "Uninstall Selected
  227. Software". The uninstall applet of the selected application will be
  228. launched instantly

  232. Removing an uninstall entry
  233. ===========================

  235. In some circumstances, an application is not removed properly and the
  236. uninstall entry remains on your system. If you find an obsolete uninstall
  237. entry of an application that is no longer installed on your computer, you
  238. can remove the entry from the installed applications list. In order to
  239. remove an uninstall entry, select the item that you want to remove, and
  240. from the File menu (or from the pop-up menu), select "Delete Selected
  241. Entry".

  245. Quick Mode
  246. ==========
  247.  
  248. By default, each time that you run MyUninstaller utility, it
  249. automatically scans and analyzes the installed applications on your
  250. computer. On computer with dozens of installed applications, this loading
  251. process may be quite slow. If you want to load MyUninstaller in much
  252. faster way, turn on the quick mode option. When quick mode is enabled,
  253. the information gathered by MyUninstaller is saved into a special INI
  254. file under your 'Application Data' folder, and in the next time you run
  255. MyUninstaller, the installed applications information will be loaded from
  256. that INI file, instead of reanalyzing your system. However, if you have
  257. installed new software since the last time you ran MyUninstaller, you
  258. have to refresh the software list by pressing F5 key.

  260. In order to enable or diable the quick mode, select the 'Quick Mode'
  261. option from the View menu.

  265. Advanced Mode
  266. =============

  268. When Advanced Mode is turned on, you are allowed to select multiple
  269. items, and then delete or uninstall them at once. This option is turned
  270. off by default, and you should not turn it on, unless you're really a
  271. power user.

  275. Translating MyUninstaller to other languages
  276. ============================================
  277.  
  278. Starting from version 1.20, you are allowed to easily translate
  279. MyUninstaller to other language.
  280. In order to do that, follow the instructions below:
  281. 1. Run MyUninstaller with /savelangfile parameter:
  282.    myuninst.exe /savelangfile
  283.    a file named 'myuninst_lng.ini' will be created in the folder of
  284.    MyUninstaller.
  285. 2. Open the created language file in Notepad or in any other text
  286.    editor.
  287. 3. Translate all menus, dialog-boxes, and string entries to the
  288.    desired language. Optionally, you can also add your name and/or a link
  289.    to your Web site. (TranslatorName and TranslatorURL values) If you add
  290.    this information, it'll be used in the 'About' window.
  291. 4. After you finish the translation, Run MyUninstaller, and all
  292.    translated strings will be loaded from the language file.
  293.    If you want to run MyUninstaller without the translation, simply
  294.    rename the language file, or move it to another folder.
